QLD: Factory blaze causes million dollars damage

BRISBANE, April 5 AAP - A Brisbane company suffered losses estimated at about one million
dollars when fire severely damaged its factory in suburban Wacol today.

Firefighters took more than two hours to control the blaze in the 70m by 30m factory in
Quindus and Formation streets, after receiving the alarm just after 11am.

The factory, operated by Dy-Mark, contained paints, aerosols, LPG, cardboard and lead.

A fire service spokesman said power was cut to the whole area containing the factory as
more than 50 firefighters from 11 stations fought the blaze.

All nearby premises were evacuated because of explosion risks from LPG and CO2 cylinders in
the factory.

The hazardous chemicals unit and special fire equipment including a hydraulic platform and
a telescopic aerial pump were called to the blaze.

Firefighters would remain at the scene tonight to monitor the area, as the Queensland Fire
and Rescue Authority investigation unit and the Queensland Police investigated the cause of
the blaze, the spokesman said.
